Are you SMART? If not I admonish you to get smart and get SMART.

SMART is an acronym in goal setting that stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
When setting a goal make sure you check this list and that you can say yes to each section.
Specific- Saying you want to be wealthy is not specific. Saying you want to make $150K a year is specific. Remember you will get whatever you ask for, vague ideas about what you want will lead to vague reality.
Measurable- Making sure your goal is measurable is key. How will you know when to applaud yourself, how will you know you’re going in the right direction? If one is seeking a college degree he or she knows approximately every 9 weeks how they are doing in their classes by taking mid-terms. When a woman is having a baby the process is broken up into trimesters that all have their specific milestones to assure the health of the pregnancy. That thing you’re going after must have the same. Make sure you can measure where you are along your path to assure you will get there.
Attainable- This may at first appear to be basic common sense, but we can get tripped up on this one. If you’re goal is to walk to China by Tuesday, this is not a likely goal, it is not attainable, it is not physically or reasonably possible. Rather your goal might be to travel to China within the next 5 years, that is attainable.
Relevant- Relevancy is based upon your own person radar. Is your goal important to you? Do you have passion around this goal? If it is not relevant to you, there is almost a definite possibility that you will not achieve it. Urgencies and this thing called life will get in the way. Make sure you have passion surrounding your goal.
Time-Bound- This is where many fall short. We set a goal, a new years resolution, we set our sight on something new and we fail to give it a schedule. If you are driving from California to Colorado and do not have any idea how long it will take to make this trip, you might possibly get way off track. A journey that might have taken 15 hours could easily take you 40 hours if you don’t have a map or a guide. Your time frame motivates you to complete the task, you can speed up when needed, rest when needed, applaud yourself when needed when you’re on a schedule. Never leave home without your timeframe.
